Due to reoccurring massive flooding throughout the city resulting from hurricanes and other significant storm events, the City had previously engaged Rivers for completion of a comprehensive drainage study encompassing a number of drainage basin watersheds. As the City sought to implement various recommendations from that study, Rivers assisted the City in its efforts to secure federal financial assistance.
Rivers was then engaged to provide survey, design, permitting, easement mapping, construction administration and construction inspection services for stormwater drainage improvements within three primary watersheds throughout the City. Extensive hydrologic and hydraulic modeling was conducted for the stream restoration of Jack’s Creek including removal of approximately 500 LF of piped conveyance, installation of new box culverts ranging in size from twin 8’ x 4’ to triple 7’ x 7’ boxes, and upgrades to the existing Jack’s Creek tidal basin stormwater pump station.
Public involvement for improvements within the Runyon Creek watershed included meeting with residents of a residential subdivision where approximately 60 property owners were directly affected by project construction. Due to tight project financing deadlines, Rivers partnered with regulatory agencies early in the process to assure project compliance and facilitate express permitting with minimal comments, allowing bids to be received just five months after project initiation.
