Washington Streetscape Phase One

Rivers was retained to prepare concepts for improvements to Main Street in downtown Washington. After a series of public meetings, the preferred concept was endorsed by the public, property owners and elected officials.  Rivers was further engaged to design and provide construction administration and inspection services for implementation of the first phase, a two block section extending from Respess Street to Market Street in the heart of downtown commercial core. 

The new cross-section for the redeveloped street removes parking on one side to allow widened sidewalks, visibility to storefronts, and room for sidewalk dining. Aging Infratructure was replaced as part of the work.   Staging of construction to ensure minimal disruption of access to businesses on Main was a high priority.  The construction period was scheduled in order for completion by the Christmas holiday shopping season.
