Through a partnership with Evergreen of Greenville, Inc. (dba Uptown Greenville), the United Way of Pitt County provided funding supplemented by the Greenville Redevelopment Commission for implementation of a 2,000 SF pocket park in the central business district. This small urban core park is a redevelopment of a lot that historically hosted a commercial structure, but has been utilized as a gravel parking lot after the building was demolished years ago. In addition to becoming an urban outdoor public patio space, this courtyard will also become one of several locations throughout the city hosting the Born Learning Trail sponsored by United Way of Pitt County. Rivers was engaged to design the park hardscape, providing a pedestrian gathering location in addition to space accommodating activity stations for the encouragement of play and exploration, helping young children prepare for success in school and life.
