The ribbon-cutting for the new streetscape in the heart fo downtown Washington was dedicated in time for holiday shopping in 2020. The dedication ceremony included remarks in honor of Mayor Mac Hodges, who lost his battle with COVID-19 in late summer. The streetscape was met with great enthusiasm and our best wishes for expanded visitation, new businesses, and increased economic activity.
Rivers was hired in 2018 to develop streetscape concepts and Design Development for improvements to 2 blocks of Main Street in Washington, the City's historic retail center near the river. In early 2019 Rivers began work on construction drawings. The job went out for bid in early 2020, and construction began in March of 2020. Surface improvements included widened brick sidewalks, historic street lights, new street trees, irrigation, benches, and a small park near the intersection of Main and Stewart Parkway. Utility work included the replacement of water, sewer, and stormwater systems, and new electric to power lights and receptacles on the street. Rivers also supplied the services of a Resident Project Representative on-site to help the City oversee this important project.
General Contractor for the project was BE Singleton and Sons.
